I’ve been drawing caricatures since I was a young boy, but only in the last fifteen years did I start to paint them as well. Caricature is an artform involving the exaggeration of a person’s features to get a reaction, usually laughter. In the 1980’s I was enthralled by the puppets of Spitting Image and the cartoons of Kevin ‘KAL’ Kallaugher in the Economist, and over the years taught myself to draw them.
I’ve written two books on the art of caricature, one with a foreword written by KAL, and the other with a foreword by Derren Brown. Check those out here https://www.paulmoyse.com/store
More recently, I’ve been fascinated by the natural world and the personality it has to offer, from the movement of waves, to the shape of a tree. I’m constantly humbled by our surroundings and the show that nature puts on for us.
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of drawing and painting for many clients, both private, commercial and celebrity. My clients have included: Penn and Teller, Tim Jenison, Derren Brown, Sir Paul McCartney, The Weekly Standard, Radio Times and many more.
In 2012 my portrait of Derren Brown was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the BP Portrait Awards Exhibition.
In my spare time, I’m a budding writer of short stories, novels and picture books. I’m as passionate about storytelling as I am about painting, though I have more evidence of one than of the other.
